Baraboo News Republic - NASH COLUMN: Walker’s lies hurting state... good piece

Gov. Scott Walker keeps bragging that his policies are working. In fact, he’s so sure of it that he urged Minnesota businesses to move here because of our thriving business climate.

Maybe he should have compared the two states before he opened his mouth.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis, Wisconsin’s Gross Domestic Product (an indicator of the health of the economy) increased only 1.5 percent in 2012. In the same period, Minnesota’s increased 3.5 percent, 2 percent more than ours.

As a June 17 article by Katharine Grayson in the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal summarized: “Minnesota’s economy is among the fastest growing nationwide, according to a report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Minnesota and California tied for the No. 5 ranking, which was based on gross domestic product growth rates. The report based the findings on data related to manufacturing, construction, agriculture, mining, finance, insurance and trade.”

Another way to compare states’ economies is by their residents’ average personal income. Minnesota’s real personal income from 2011 to 2012 increased 4.14 percent, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, putting it sixth from the top of all the states. Ours increased 2.69 percent putting us at No. 41; only nine states have personal income growth rates lower than Wisconsin’s.

In fact, U.S. Department of Labor statistics show that between September 2011 and September 2012, there was no change in Minnesota’s weekly wages of $915. The same table shows that average weekly wages in Wisconsin fell by $21 to $770, and only four other states suffered a drop in wages larger than Wisconsin’s.

A former fellow Alderman, now Republican Assemblyman just posted on Facebook that the 62,000 jobs created by the Walker Administration is "Private sector job gains under Gov Walker are the BEST two year gains under any Gov in over a decade!"

That "decade" was under the Bush recessions after 9/11 and for a period of time when national job growth was anemic at best.

The spin is intended to deflect from the fact that Walker promised 250,000 new jobs in his first term....he's a long, long way from that promise.

Also saw that the same assemblyman and his Repub cohorts held a meeting with the editorial board of Gannett....the spin there was:

"...the effort to recall Governor Walker hurt the State's job growth BUT THIS BUDGET FIXES THAT!

I'm still scraping the bullshit off my screen.

He cannot imagine that others can/have this ability. If his ALEC instructions dictate that he lie well then he believes his instructions. There is no other reality. It is the TRUTH that can hurt him/his image when he speaks in public.
I really think Walker believes he is invincible.
