Wausau grants tax boon to Liberty Mutual

WAUSAU - Employees of Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Wausau are on track to move to a new office building with help from city tax incentives.

Wausau City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to allow nearly $5 million in tax refunds to Liberty Mutual over six years, tied to the new development.

The company plans to invest $50 million in the property at 2101 West Bridge St., just west of U.S. 51. A new building would be about 150,000 square feet and hold the company's existing Wausau employees.

Liberty Mutual is one of Wausau's largest employers with nearly 900 employees and a total annual payroll above $54 million, according to city documents.
