MADISON (WKOW................

One of the more controversial provisions eliminates the DNR's water division, splitting protection for water quality between two other divisions.

.................. Air, landfill and some water regulation will also be merged from separate divisions into one.

"Wisconsin families deserve an agency that's going to look out for the air we breathe, that's going look out for the water we drink, the places we recreate. And instead, what this is moving us closer to is an agency that looks out for the big corporate polluters," said Kerry Schumann, executive director of the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters.

.............Secretary Cathy Stepp told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that part of the change is due to funding cuts from the Republican controlled legislature.

Governor Walker has also been supportive of the cuts, saying he believes a sustainable environment has to be balanced with a sustainable economy.
