Randy Hopper blames "politics" for his DUI

Typical republican.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- Former state Sen. Randy Hopper said politics played a role in his drunken driving arrest in Fond du Lac County last fall.

Hopper took the stand Thursday on the first day of his two-day trial. He says his vote to eliminate collective bargaining for most state employees was the catalyst for threats against him.

Or he is grossly incompetent. The account of the trial sure makes it appear that the fix was in. Truly disgraceful. Take a look at the comments at the end of the article, too:

"Last August, Hopper was recalled -- for his support of Governor Walker's collective bargaining bill. In October, he was arrested for drunk driving. A couple of citizens tailed Hopper's SUV and called in a drunk driving tip to the Fond du Lac sheriff.

Attorney Dennis Melowski argued those callers were driven by their politics.

"Not only did they sign recall petitions, they circulated recall petitions," said Melowski."

I guess whining does pay off...

If Hopper's claim that no one saw him actually driving the vehicle is correct, I guess I can see why they found him not guilty, but the arrogant claims of this nut that somehow this is all because of recall politics is just one more way of saying "It's not my fault!"

These people don't take responsibility for anything.

They were the ones who were attacked for having supported his recall. How did they know who the driver was when they called? Did the prosecution bring up that argument to counter claims of their bias? One of the comments to the article said the special prosecutor is a patent lawyer, and it seems he did make mistakes. That would be a fine way to stack the deck in favor of Hopper.
