Citizen Koch, the 2013 documentary about how corporate political spending influenced Wisconsin politics in the Walker era, is on the shortlist to be nominated for an Academy Award.
The film, by Carl Deal and Tia Lessin, is one of 15 finalists out of 134 films that could be nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary. The five nominees will be announced in January.
Citizen Koch, by filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin, looks at the fallout from the U.S. Supreme Courts Citizens United decision, which allowed unlimited contributions to third-party political groups like Americans for Prosperity.
The film connects the dots between those contributions from billionaires like the Koch brothers and the fight over Gov. Walkers Act 10, which stripped most public-sector workers of most of their collective bargaining rights. In particular, the film follows three Wisconsin Republicans and public-service workers who join the protests against Walker in 2010...............
