Wisconsin: Recall organizer Compas announces candidacy

Lori Compas, who organized the recall effort against state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, announced Tuesday afternoon that she would run against the veteran Republican from Juneau.

Compas, 41, a Fort Atkinson photographer and writer, led the Fitzgerald recall that delivered about 20,600 signatures to the state Government Accountability Board on Jan. 17.

She said she wants to be a voice for middle-class families in the district and accused Fitzgerald of not listening to his constituents.

"This movement isn't about me," Compas said. "It's about all of us. It's about our belief that people should matter more than money. It's about our expectation that government should be open and honest. It's about the simple belief that our legislators should work hard on our behalf and represent us honorably."
