US Attorneys seek prison sentence for Hurricane woman convicted in Jan. 6 riot

United States attorneys are seeking prison time for a Hurricane, West Virginia, woman convicted of participating in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Gracyn Dawn Courtright, 24, was charged after she was identified through her own social media posts of the event, which saw hundreds of people force their way into the building in support of former President Donald Trump, causing Congress to temporarily stop its progress in certifying presidential election results.

U.S. Attorneys for the District of Columbia said Courtright, who has pleaded guilty to entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, deserves a federal prison sentence because of her brazenness in entering the Senate floor, publicizing her role on social media while showing no remorse for her actions and downplaying the seriousness of the offense — which they identified as domestic terrorism.

Courtright is to be sentenced in Washington, D.C., Dec. 17.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Fletcher in D.C. federal court, where the case is being handled, said in a sentencing memorandum Friday that, while Courtright did not engage in violence or property destruction, prosecutors still think a prison sentence is appropriate.

1. When I see pictures of the insurgents I always think they ought to load them on a bus

and drop them off at mar-a-lago. Trump wouldn’t allow them on his property but he was happy to encourage them and tell them they were patriots. Those people were stupid enough to think TFG would somehow offer them support. After years of seeing him in action they still worship him. Let’s face it, if he hadn’t inherited millions he’d be just one more red neck goober. Except he’d never have the balls to do anything like that himself.

3. Anyone who set foot on the Floor of the Senate should be charged with Disruption of Congress

A felony charged and they should serve no less that than a year and a day behind bars. They could serve up to 20.

5. No remorse for her actions.

While I personally don't believe that anyone should be able to use the "caught up in the moment" excuse, I'm certainly willing to listen and consider their poor judgment as compared to someone who is obstinate such as this woman. She deserves the felony charges and at least one year behind bars to contemplate her decisions. Due to her age and the likelihood that she will repeat the same behavior, she should also receive five years of supervised probation including drug testing and unannounced home visits. Her sentence should also contain a provision so that she is not allowed on social media for five years after her release from prison.

6. There were plenty of chances to stop.

When the police lines were crossed

When the police officers were attacked outside the building

When the riot was declared

When the tear gas was deployed

When the building was breeched

When ordered to cease inside the building

When being told not to enter the Senate Chamber

Anyone who got that far was well informed and well passed the swept up stage. They were part of a determined assault on the Capitol.

Her stating that she was not involved in the violence coupled with no video and still photos of her acting violently would leave me close to where you are. A year minimum.

I would happily testify against each one of these motherFers. They took part in a violent assault on the US Capitol in an attempt to overthrow an election and American Democracy itself.
