And golden goal, no less.

When our sons were playing high school soccer, they were together on the team one year - older son a senior, and younger one a freshman on varsity - he was good enough to be a starter all season. The team always struggled, and were the 17th seed out of 18 (!) in the end-of-season tournament. They somehow made it into the semi-final game, and, to everyone's shock, beat the 1st seed, in overtime.

It was a night game, and the opposition was wearing white. The opposing players all dropped to the ground in disbelief when our boys scored the winning goal - like marionettes whose strings had all been cut at the same time. Everyone was shocked. I can still see it in my mind's eye, even tho it was back in 2007 - quite a stark picture with all the white uniforms against the green grass and the black sky.

The local press had not even sent anyone to cover the game, as no one thought our guys stood a chance, so they missed out on a very exciting finish. Our guys went on to win the final as well. Some very cherished memories.

I'm sure the Marshall players and parents will cherish their memories just as much.

...in 15th place, knock off Man City (#1) 3-2.

Good old soccer/football - you never know what will happen.
