Evacuations lifted near 20,000-acre Grant County wildfire; now 65% contained

All evacuation notices have been lifted and roads reopened in the area of the 243 Command Fire in Grant County.

The wildfire has been burning since late Monday night, and as of 8:20 a.m. Friday, had burned 20,500 acres. It was 65% contained.

"Some crews will remain overnight and tomorrow (Friday). This is very good news," the Grant County Sheriff's Office wrote in a tweet.

As of Friday morning, the Southeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team reported many crews were being sent home and their goal was for a local crew to take over management of the fire by Saturday morning.
