Guy Palumbo quits state Senate to become lobbyist for Amazon
OLYMPIA Democratic state Sen. Guy Palumbo of Maltby resigned Friday and will become the state director of public policy for Amazon.
Palumbo, who was in his first term representing the 1st Legislative District, submitted a resignation letter to Gov. Jay Inslee early Friday.
He will be returning to Seattle-based Amazon, where he was among the firms early employees.
In a statement, Palumbo called his tenure in the Legislature the distinguishing honor of my professional life.
As rewarding as it has been to serve in the Senate, the role I cherish most is being a husband and father. I am returning to the private sector so I can be closer to my home and young family and my small business, he said.
He cited several accomplishments of which he is most proud, including increased investment in transportation improvements in the district and passage of legislation on climate change and expanded access to college.
