13 Seattle Boy Scout Leaders Named In Child Sex Abuse Files
SEATTLE, WA More than 100 former Boy Scout leaders who appeared in the so-called Perversion Files were being singled out Tuesday. Dozens of leaders from Bellingham to Chehalis were named in files released by the Los Angeles Times.
More than 7,800 Boy Scouts of America leaders nationwide were accused by the lawyers of child sex abuse. Many of the former Scout leaders appeared in the sweeping LA Times database dating to October 2012 that tracked thousands of men and women who were kicked out of the organization between 1947 and January 2005 due to suspected sex abuse.
There are 13 former Boy Scout leaders from Seattle named in the files, including one man who appears twice. Many of the alleged sex abuse incidents happened before 1990, with the most recent in 2000.
In one case from 1970, a Seattle man allegedly forced his stepdaughters, ages 7 and 9, to perform oral sex on him. The man's church, St. John, sponsored him to become a committeeman for a Boy Scout pack. But a Seattle detective who was active in the scouts notified local leaders of the allegations, prompting them to deny him the committeeman position.
