Father in Spokane Valley Amber Alert found dead after SWAT standoff

A Tuesday morning Amber Alert led to a SWAT standoff with the father of a boy who was allegedly taken after his mother was stabbed in Spokane Valley.

The Amber Alert was initially sent around 8 a.m. Tuesday after Spokane County deputies responded to a residence and found a mother inside who had been stabbed multiple times.

The mother was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. She told deputies she was estranged from her husband and had recently served him with divorce papers.

Her son and husband were later located at a residence in St. John, south of Spokane. The Amber Alert was cancelled, but a police standoff began.

A SWAT negotiation team was able to secure the boy, according to a Spokane County Sheriff's Office Facebook post published at 3:45 p.m.

I work in divorce law in Washington under a brand new license, Limited License Legal Technician. Washington is the only state that has the license, and I am the 2nd to be licensed. It authorizes non-attorneys to provide legal advice and services in divorce / custody / child support cases. I would be distraught if this happened in one of my cases, needless to say.

Hits close to home (I'm in central Washington).....

Not surprisingly, it's been a roller coaster, with protectionist attorneys (not all...) putting up quite a turf fight.

"Unharmed" is kind of a misnomer, I should think. Kid will undoubtedly have PTSD. But it sounds as if there was no physical trauma to him.

Such sadness in the world.
