Seattle sees a largely peaceful May Day march

This year’s May Day March for Immigrant and Workers Rights drew a large number of participants who filled the streets in Seattle. But there were few reported problems with any unruly protesters.

Police posted several photos on Twitter Tuesday showing a robust law enforcement presence during the El Comite International Workers Day March Tuesday. But officers apparently made only one arrest of a masked man man accused of throwing a rock at the Amazon Spheres, according to a Seattle Police Department tweet.

Police mostly kept rival demonstrators — including a small number of members of right-wing groups and a competing number of masked Antifa protesters — separated during the rallies and march from Judkins Park to downtown, according to KOMONEWS.com.

In past years mask-wearing marchers clad in black have been a contrast to the mostly peaceful participants in the annual workers's march. In past years, some emerged from crowds of peaceful marchers to smash store windows and then shed the dark clothes to blend back in with the march.
