Nick Hanauer's new organization

http://civicskunkworks.com/?page_id=545

Together, we built this incredible organization: the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility. And something amazing happened—we fought the gun lobby and, for the first time in decades, we won. We passed Initiative 594 – and not by a little, either—by almost 20 points! This is a tremendous accomplishment that has likely already saved lives, and we couldn’t have done it without you. I want to thank you for everything you’ve done to advance the cause of gun reform and to make Washington a better, saner place.

Unfortunately, our politicians didn’t follow our lead. Commonsense gun legislation that would take guns out of the hands of extreme-risk individuals exhibiting symptoms of violent mental illness was narrowly shut down in Olympia last month thanks to opposition from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. Like you, I’m mad about our lawmakers’ failure to... well, make laws. And, sadly, this is all too common.

That’s why I’m excited to tell you about my newest enterprise. I’ve assembled a small team of troublemakers to interact with politics in a new way—to think and dream and write about political possibilities. We believe government can benefit from the same innovations Americans have come to expect from the business world. We’re calling the group Civic Ventures, and you can read about what we’re up to on our blog, Civic Skunk Works.
