Help promote Medicaid expansion in WA State
Dear Healthy WA Coalition,
TODAY is a big day for promoting Medicaid expansion. By having multiple organizations promoting this at the same time and sharing interesting factoids, infographics and personal stories, we hope to generate some positive earned media showing this has broad support from a range of organizations. While there is growing agreement among legislators that Medicaid expansion is the right thing to do, some legislators remain uncertain. Governor Inslee is asking those who care about improving health care to join him in promoting the expansion of Medicaid and calling on the Legislature to make this a priority in the 2013 legislative session. Our goal is to get #Medicaid4WA trending on Tuesday and elevate the importance of moving forward on this effort.
There are no better spokespeople to make this happen than the clients, patients, workers and families in the Healthy WA Coalition!

• JOBS: The expansion of Medicaid will create more than 10,000 jobs. In rural areas where hospitals and health care providers are major employers, this is especially important.
• PHYSICAL HEALTH: Up to 500,000 adults will be newly eligible for Medicaid coverage, ensuring fewer people foregoing care or depending on costly ERs and more people staying healthy with less-costly preventive and primary care services.
• FISCAL HEALTH: Health care reform and Medicaid expansion will save the state about $208 million (net) per biennium. Because this is such a good deal for states, governors from both parties are supporting Medicaid expansion.
Top three key messages:
• Medicaid expansion will create thousands of good-paying jobs, from nursing assistants and billing specialists to pharmacists and physicians.
• Medicaid expansion helps hundreds of thousands hard-working people access medical care. These are young workers still looking for their first full-time job, the working mom who can only afford to cover her child but not herself, or the construction worker who has struggled to find steady work and remains uninsured.
• This is a common-sense fiscal win for Washington families, businesses and government. Both Democratic and Republican governors are moving forward on Medicaid expansion because it helps their state’s bottom line and the bottom lines of families and businesses who are struggling to cover the costs of rising health care costs.
