Should Washington State change it's name?

I have never liked Washington's name - George Washington never set foot in the state, and it was just a ploy to ensure admission to the Union (like they'd have said no).

The original planned name was "Columbia", after the river. That's just OK - the river was named after the Capt. Gray's ship, the Columbia Rediviva. It doesn't really encompass the Sound or the Olympic Peninsula, and it's a western name applied to the river.

I propose "Tahoma", after Mt. Rainier's native name. You can see it from nearly the whole state, east & west. Tacoma, Tahoma would be fun, also.

What say ye?

I live in Oregon and I would hate it if we had been named Jefferson, Adams or another name of a former president.

States generally are not named to commemorate, and there is already Washington, D.C that causes some confusion.
