Seattle's Lake Washington Boulevard closes for pedestrians, local traffic
Good news for all those Seattle-area walkers, bikers, and roller bladers: Lake Washington Boulevard is closing again for pedestrian- and local traffic-use only.
Based on community feedback and observations after a 5-day pilot opening in June, the lengthy greenway will reopen to people walking, rolling, biking, and driving to local destinations from July 24 to Sept. 8 with the possibility of extending it to the end of September.
"We coordinated this effort with Seattle Parks and Recreation (Parks), the statement read online. Parks continues to limit parking and biking at Seward Park to prevent overcrowding and the spread of COVID-19. By opening Lake Washington Blvd, more people can stay close to home and keep six feet apart while recreating.
In tandem, the uptick in novel coronavirus cases in the region has underscored the hopes of opening additional public spaces which synonymously allow recreation and social distancing.
