Facebook closes Seattle office until next week after positive coronavirus test

SEATTLE — Facebook said Wednesday it will close its Seattle office until March 9 after one of its contractors tested positive for COVID-19 and recommends all of its employees work from home for the rest of the month as coronavirus spreads in the state.

Tracy Clayton, a spokesperson for the social media giant, said a contractor based in the Stadium East Office was diagnosed with coronavirus. The office will be closed until next week, marking the end of the contractor's incubation period for the virus.

King County health officials said all Facebook sites in the Seattle area should work from home until March 31.

"We’ve notified our employees and are following the advice of public health officials to prioritize everyone’s health and safety,” Clayton said.
