Fourth UW Student Tested For Novel Cornavirus In Seattle
SEATTLE, WA A fourth student at the University of Washington is being tested and monitored for 2019 Novel Coronavirus following a trip to China in January, the college announced Wednesday. A UW spokesman said the university would continue to work alongside King County Public Health to ensure appropriate precautions were taken to minimize risk on campus.
News of the latest student to be tested follows three students who were screened for the respiratory virus in late January. Test results for all three returned negative. The university said the fourth student lives off-campus and was not connected to the previous three.
UW began restricting all official travel to China by students, faculty or staff this week, following updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. State Department.
The state Department of Health said two dozen people have been tested for the illness in Washington since a Snohomish County man was diagnosed with the first U.S. case in January. No other infections have been confirmed.
