Gov. Jay Inslee: Boeing risks state tax incentives if new NMA jet built elsewhere

Billions of dollars of state tax incentives Boeing enjoys in Washington state might be at risk if the company decides to build its new, future jetliner elsewhere, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee warned Thursday.

Inslee told reporters in Olympia during a pre-legislative briefing session that while he felt unduly pressured by Boeing back in 2013 when the company suggested it would build its new 777X jet elsewhere if it didn't get the $8.7 billion tax incentive package it wanted, things are different now as Boeing develops plans for its next new jet: the New Mid-market Airplane (NMA) that some call the 797.

"When it comes time — and we hope that time will come [for the NMA] — the Boeing Company is going to need to realize that they have been given a very, very generous benefit and we expect that new airplane to be built in the state of Washington. And they need to be aware of that," Inslee said.

"And if they seek to maintain their favorable tax treatment, we need to have that plane built in the state of Washington. I hope they're aware of that and I look forward to that happy day," Inslee added.

is that the B&O taxes increase along with other taxes to cover that incentive Boeing enjoys. Small business owners do not like Inslee so they vote republican.
