Winter storm warning: North of us, south of us, above us
The National Weather Service has delivered a Winter Storm Warning for passes in the Cascades, the valleys of Whatcom and Skagit counties and such towns in the Cascade foothills as Index and Skykomish.
Snow will come in big amounts, six to 18 inches above 2,000 feet, 18 to 30 inches above 3,000 feet -- the elevation of Snoqualmie Pass. The warning extends to valleys of Pierce and Lewis counties, as well as Crystal Mountain and Paradise.
But temperatures in central Puget Sound will climb into the mid-40s and Friday and Saturday, before steadily falling to the upper 30s on Sunday and into the 20's early next week.
With much colder weather on the way, the National Weather Service warned late Thursday: "Vulnerable and unprotected populations will be at risk next week due to much colder conditions across the region."
