Poll: Homelessness top issue among WA voters
Washington voters ranked homelessness as the top issue they want the state legislature to focus on this year, according to a new poll.
The Crosscut/Elway poll released Thursday found 31% of poll respondents ranked homelessness as the most important issue the state Legislature should focus on during this session. The next most important issue among Washington voters was taxes, but just 16% of respondents said it was top for them.
In the 2019 poll, only 21% of Washington voters ranked homelessness as their No. 1 issue, showing an increase of 10 points over the course of the year. In 2017, homelessness ranked as the top issue among just 5% of Washington voters.
The poll also found half of the respondents support a recent proposal from Gov. Jay Inslee to use about $300 million from the state's "rainy day" fund to help get more people off of the street. A slightly smaller portion, 44%, oppose the proposal.
