Cold, wet weather rolls into western Washington, could lower snow levels to 1,000 feet by Tuesday
It looks unlikely that lowland snow will fall next week in Seattle, but there is a high chance of snow and freezing conditions in the mountains, making for tough driving conditions for those traveling over the holiday week.
Wet weather was expected to roll in starting Saturday, with snow levels expected to drop to 1,000 feet by Tuesday from 4,000 feet on Sunday, according to a forecast briefing emailed to reporters by the National Weather Service. This could make for treacherous driving conditions over mountain passes.
Mountain snow was possible starting Saturday afternoon through Tuesday. Breezes with gusts up to 15-30 mph were possible over the weekend.
Those planning to drive over the mountains this weekend or early next week should be sure to bring chains and other cold-weather essentials.
