Tacoma City Council considers investing hundreds of thousands into micro-shelter village

TACOMA, WA - The City of Tacoma is considering investing $388,000 into a temporary shelter village to help combat the homelessness crisis.

On December 1, the city’s new tent ban will take effect. For the last few weeks, the city and other organizations have worked to find alternative shelter for people experiencing homelessness.

Tuesday, council plans to vote on investing $388k to the Low Income Housing Institute, a Seattle-based organization that builds and manages temporary shelters.

The plan is to construct the temporary shelters at 802 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

My patients will be out in the freezing cold while you make up your minds to provide temporary housing.
