Downtown Redmond light rail project breaks ground

Sound Transit broke ground on the downtown Redmond Link light rail extension Wednesday.

The extension, which will have two stations in southeast Redmond and downtown Redmond, will connect to the East Link extension, including downtown Bellevue, Mercer Island, and Seattle’s International District.

The southeast Redmond station, which is near Marymoor Park, will have 1,400 parking spaces, according to Sound Transit.

The 3.4-mile-long extension is expected to open in 2024, one year after the East Link extension begins service. Sound Transit expects to being testing the line in 2023.
