Virginia lawmaker promises honest truth in misleading ad
By Glenn Kessler

I approve this message because you deserve an honest conversation about health care. My opponent, Abigail Spanberger, is running millions of dollars worth of ads that say Republicans dont care about preexisting conditions, when she full well knows that is a total falsehood. What shes really doing is hiding from the failure of Obamacare and her own health-care plan, which increases government control of the economy by $32 trillion and requires you to pay double your taxes. And thats the honest truth about health care.
Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.), in a campaign ad released Oct. 23
When a politician promises you the honest truth in an attack ad, hold onto your wallet.
Readers may recall that Brat previously falsely claimed during a debate that the Fact Checker had given his opponent Four Pinocchios for her ad on preexisting conditions, when we had not. The ad in question was defensible, given Brats voting record on health care.
Now hes out with a new ad, again accusing her of a total falsehood, while slipping in a whopper about her plans for health care. His pitch is part of a pattern in which Republicans have accused Democrats of supporting a sweeping Medicare-for-all plan proposed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) when many candidates have not.
Heres whats really going on.
