Impact of Repug medicaid proposal on Virginia's 7th congressional district:

Rep. Henry A. Waxman, Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr., Ranking Member of the Health Subcommittee, have released new analysis detailing the impact of the Republican Medicaid proposal on each congressional district.

Here are the immediate and long-term impacts of those changes in House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s district, Virginia’s 7th Congressional District:

•Reduce coverage for 8,000 dual eligible seniors and individuals with disabilities who rely on Medicaid to supplement their Medicare coverage or pay their Medicare cost sharing.
•Jeopardize nursing home care for 1,600 whose expenses are paid by Medicaid.
•Impair the health care of 31,000 children, including 2,000 newborns each year, who receive coverage under Medicaid.
•Cut payments to hospitals for 14,000 emergency room visits paid for by Medicaid each year.
•Cut payments to hospitals for 5,100 inpatient visits paid for by Medicaid each year.
•Reduce jobs and hurt economic growth by eliminating $700 million in Medicaid spending.
