Man who appeared on 'VICE News Tonight wanted for three felonies related to torchlit march through Grounds
By Anna Higgins | 08/23/2017
The University Police Department has obtained arrest warrants for white nationalist Christopher Cantwell, according to a release issued Tuesday evening. The warrants are related to the white nationalist torchlit march through Grounds on Aug. 11, which turned violent when white nationalists and counter-protesters clashed at the statue of Thomas Jefferson north of the Rotunda, resulting in numerous injuries.
UPD obtained the warrants on the grounds of illegal use of tear gas, phosgene and other gases and malicious bodily injury by means of any caustic substance or agent or use of any explosive or fire. ... Both of the charges are felonies.
These warrants stem from incidents on the University of Virginia Grounds during the evening of August 11th, the release said. Mr. Cantwell should turn himself in immediately to any police agency. ... A photograph from the torchlit march appears to show Cantwell pepper-spraying a counter-protester.
Cantwell gained national recognition when he was featured in a widely-shared VICE News Tonight episode on the Aug. 12 Unite the Right rally. ... The UPD asks for witnesses and victims of the Aug. 11 torchlit march on Grounds to contact the department.

(17,441 posts)1. This is rather quick as these things go.
UVa is in Albemarle County, not the City of Charlottesville. All the other assaults I have seen on the news happened in the City of Charlottesville. Albemarle can focus on this one event.

Yonnie, where's the city limit line?
Nevermind, I found a map noting the county/city line.

(17,441 posts)3. I am not sure.
I think only part of UVa abuts Charlottesville the rest abuts the county. At the UVa corner if you cross over University Ave. you enter the county. UVa has expanded east into the city (The new hospital and it's environs) I'm not sure if they redrew the line or if the new areas are in the City.
I'm sure the police and prosecutors know, but I don't know where to find out.
