Record turnout in Virginia primary.

http://www.nbc29.com/story/35674072/record-voter-turnout-in-2017-va-primary-election

The 2017 Virginia primary election had one of the largest voter turnouts in Virginia history.

The state electoral board has been analyzing the turnout numbers.

"Statewide, democrats had the highest turnout in any non-presidential primary in Virginia history with over 540,000 ballots cas, which beat out the previous record by fifty thousand votes. So that's pretty remarkable," said Geoff Skelley with the UVA Center of Politics.

So that's roughly a 10% increase in Dems. Let's carry this into 2018! JudyM Jun 2017 #2

There was a more progressive candidate and a more establishment candidate in this primary. It was a close race with the more establishment candidate winning. Will the supporters of Perriello simply vote for Northam in November? Will Northam need to address the concerns of that 44% who voted for Perriello in order to get those voters out on election day?

While there was a "remarkable" increase in turnout for this primary, it is most likely only an indicator of this particular race. It is very good that the Democratic (and likely many independent) voters were more engaged, but it is necessary to keep them engaged and convince them to vote for Northam.

There is work to be done.
