Bluefield College seeks to open at former Virginia Intermont College campus

BRISTOL, Va. — Educational programming could return to the former Virginia Intermont College campus as soon as 2018.

Bluefield College, a private, liberal arts institution based in Bluefield, Virginia, is bidding to locate a new engineering program along with science and technology-focused classes to the Moore Street campus.

VI ceased operations in 2014 amid massive debt, declining enrollment and lost certification. It has remained vacant for more than two years as its board of trustees tries to resolve ongoing financial issues.

On Tuesday, Bluefield President David Olive made a presentation to the Bristol Virginia City Council which held an extensive review and then voted to take no action.
