New York Man Banned From Virginia After Valley Cigarette Smuggling Case

WOODSTOCK - A New York man avoid jail time but is banned from Virginia as part of his conviction for cigarette smuggling.

Juan Encarnacion, 48, of Grand Concourse in the Bronx, pleaded guilty to one count each of money laundering and possessing untaxed cigarettes in Shenandoah County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Encarnacion bought more than 3,000 packs of cigarettes in the Mount Jackson area between December 2012 and October 2013 to sell in New York.

He received a six-year suspended prison term and two years of supervised probation. He is barred from entering Virginia except to meet with his probation officer.
