McDonnell lists $20K in gifts from Bruce Thompson

RICHMOND
Virginia Beach developer Bruce L. Thompson and his company PHR Gold Key Resorts together gave former Gov. Bob McDonnell more than $20,000 worth of gifts in 2013, according to McDonnell’s final gift disclosure report.
The bulk of the total was for a trip last January to Miami, where McDonnell attended the college championship football game between his alma mater, Notre Dame, and Alabama.
The report, released this week, lists Gold Key as the top giver for 2013, with $14,668 for a round trip flight between Richmond and Miami. McDonnell and at least one family member flew on Thompson’s private jet.
“The plane was empty and I said hop on,” Thompson said in an email. “It was never envisioned, at least from my perspective, as a campaign contribution.”
