Welch seeking re-election to seventh term in House
WASHINGTON — Rep. Peter Welch is seeking a seventh term in the U.S. House.
Welch plans to file to run in the Democratic primary Thursday afternoon.
“What I think I have to offer is an enormous amount of energy that is unabated,” Welch said in an interview. “In fact, it may be even more intense now in face of the peril that Donald Trump poses to all the progress this country has made.”
President Trump, Welch charged, is a “divider.” He said that though the president campaigned on a promise of helping people who live in rural parts of the country, his policies have been “very, very harmful to rural America and middle class.”
“We have the worst president in my lifetime and we’ve got an opportunity to turn things around and reverse direction this next election,” Welch said.
