Dewhurst tweet says bill attempt to close clinics

AUSTIN, Texas —

Texas Senate Republicans insist proposed new restrictions on abortion facilities are designed to protect women's health, but a tweet Wednesday from Republican Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst suggested supporters of the measure hope to close clinics and all but ban the procedure in the state.

Senate Republicans shoved aside Democrat objections late Tuesday night to pass sweeping new regulations on Texas clinics that critics warn would force most facilities to close.

Over several hours of debate, Republican supporters acknowledged they hoped to reduce the number of abortions — about 78,000 in Texas annually — but insisted they were trying to raise the standard of health care for women seeking the procedure.

Less than 12 hours after the bill was sent to the House, Dewhurst tweeted a map from the Stand With Texas Women abortion rights campaign showing the locations of clinics that would likely be forced to close along with a warning the Senate plan "would essentially ban abortion statewide."

As Johnny Manziel has learned, it's too late to take back that tweet Dewhurst. Thanks for confirming the Republican agenda in Texas so that there is no doubt how much you believe in small government and the women's reproductive rights.

I'm not on Twitter, so I'll have to use this venue instead: REPUBLICANS ARE ASSHOLES!

don't understand. A trip from from Brownsville to Houston, 355 miles, would require leaving very early, just to get to a clinic before they close. Then the client has to put up with whatever waiting period imposed by law on top of all the bogus "counseling". An overnight stay would be required.

They are making it very expensive outside of the procedure itself for women to get safe, legal abortions.

Unfortunately, it make take a number of coat-hanger deaths to get people to wake up and reverse this stupidity.

It's only white abortions they're concerned about. They see white babies as future Republican voters. They could give a shit about what happens to brown babies.
