"Fix the Gimmicks."

Republicans question Legislature's budget decisions, allege gimmicks


The state budget passed last year and touted by Gov. Rick Perry in his presidential campaign as a model for the nation is increasingly under attack in the 2012 elections in Texas -- not just by Democrats, but also by some of Perry's fellow Republicans.

In candidate forums, online posts and exchanges with voters, candidates for the state House and Senate are criticizing the Legislature as being fiscally reckless last year.

"I don't think they did their job," said Craig Goldman, one of three Republicans running for the open District 97 House seat in southwest Tarrant County. "They didn't balance the budget. They created a loophole that the men and women of the next Legislature will have to solve."

All they ever do is postpone paying the piper. Next session is going to be much, much worse than last time.

One reason so many of the legislature chose to "retire" this year. It was really cutting and running.
