Hillsboro: Sheriff Named In Federal Suit Over Back Wages

WACO (February 10, 2012)--Two Hill County sheriff's deputies are suing their boss for what they say are thousands of dollars owed in back wages.

Capt. Jason Patrick and Sgt. Joshua Vercher say Sheriff Jeffrey T. Lyon deprived them of overtime pay they earned while doing their jobs as K-9 handlers for the sheriff's department.

The lawsuit was filed in the federal district clerk's office in Waco, but it has not yet been set on the judge's docket, court records showed Friday.

Patrick has announced as a candidate for Hill County Sheriff against Lyon in the upcoming Republican primary.

There is an article in the Waco Herald-Tribune indicating that a top official in the Hill County Sheriff’s Office pressed female employees to sign statements about whether Sheriff Jeffrey Lyon sexually harassed members of his staff, according to several workers there.
