Attorney withdraws from representing prime suspect in murders of Kaufman County DA and others

Attorney David Sergi no longer represents Eric Williams, who is expected to be charged soon in connection with the slayings of Kaufman County DA Mike McLelland, his wife and an assistant prosecutor.

His receptionist said Sergi is no longer on the case and she did not know who, if anyone, is representing him.

Authorities say Williams is the prime suspect in the Easter weekend shooting death of McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, at their Forney home and of Mark Hasse, who was gunned down Jan. 31 as he walked to the courthouse.

Sergi said on Friday that Williams “vigorously asserts his innocence and denies any involvement” in the killings. Sergi also said that Williams hoped the perpetrators were caught.
