Google Fiber coming to AustinGoogle Fiber may hit Austin, but will it go further?
My AT&T "fiber" is sooooooooooo blazing fast that I don't know if I'll switch.
We shall see tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to do a rain dance and thank the gods!!!

(10,170 posts)I'll see what's with Google after they get here. I'd be surprised if it beat Clear though...

(165 posts)I quit because of interference and throttling. You haven't experienced any of that?
Melissa G
(10,170 posts)the Clear at my office works fine. Better than Time Warner when I had it and way better than AT&T when I had that and only half the price. The half the price included a free netbook that was mobile. Netbook just died, but a friend moved the chip to another laptop and all is well.
Service was never that good at home and got a lot worse a couple of years ago, so I just boosted my spouse's service and started using that instead of the Clear at home.

(165 posts)I meant signal interference since it's wireless. I had problems with that in a city of 100K.
Throttling is when an ISP limits your speeds during peak periods or when you've reached a certain amount of bandwidth for the month. That's why I really hated Clear.

(10,170 posts)My home is in a low spot. Signal was never good there and worse as Clear got busier.
I had no idea about the throttling. I don't use much bandwidth, so I would not notice that.
Thanks for the explanation!

(62,521 posts)which means there is a contribution deal in place.
Considering both at&t and timewarner are big repuke donors, I have a feeling that there is either political contributions in place or there is a bait and switch deal so at&t and timewarner don't lose out.
nothing in Texas is ever as it appears, especially when cement head perry is involved.

(62,521 posts)this is typical texas politics.
google couldn't light a candle in Austin without perry knowing about it.
this was a brokered deal from the get go.
our local rag, the statesman, is a repuke placeholder.
my only hope is that the Austin Chronicle does some leg work on this to reveal the true deal.
however, I can bet you many a reporter in this town probably thinks the the real story is radioactive and won't touch it if they ever want to get in on a press briefing ever again while baby doc gov for life perry is in office.

Sadly...this is the type of network that should be built by the government.
