State Rep. Oliveira hospitalized after car crash

State Rep. Rene Oliveira, D-Brownsville, checked into an Austin hospital this morning after a car crash on his way to the Capitol, a spokesman said.

J.J. Garza, Oliveira’s spokesman, said the representative went to the hospital mostly as a precaution and did not appear to have serious injuries.

“He sounded fine. He said his neck hurt, his shoulders hurt--the typical things you would have after an accident. He decided that because he was supposed to get on a plane this afternoon, and technically still is, that he would go and get checked out at the hospital,” he said.

Garza said he did not know how the accident happened or at what time.
