A&M, UT to join forces in lobbying Capitol

The state Capitol will be orange and maroon on Tuesday -- even more so than usual.

Administrators from the University of Texas and Texas A&M systems will descend upon Austin for the Orange & Maroon Legislative Day. The event, held every session, is co-sponsored by Texas Exes and the The Association of Former Students of Texas A&M.

The combined forces of up to 200 university administrators, students and alumni hope to undo some of the 2011 higher education cuts that resulted in $72 million less for A&M and $92 million less for UT. All senators and representatives will receive a visit from the volunteers.

"We have a long history of rivalry in athletics, but this is all about how we're alike," said Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin. "And we're more alike than we are different."
