Laredo Bank to replace giant U.S. flag on tallest flag pole in the U.S.

A huge new U.S. flag (60 ft. x 120 ft.) will soon be flying from the tallest flag pole (308 feet) in the United States located at the BBVA Compass Matamoros Motor Bank and at the Veterans Memorial on Matamoros Street.

BBVA Compass Regional Facility manager Jaime Gonzalez said the pole was installed 11 years ago but was in need of a makeover.

He explained the cables which hoist the flag and electric wires leading to the 5-foot-diameter ball on top had become entangled. “That’s the reason the flag hadn’t been flying recently,” Gonzalez said.

He said the pole was getting new cables, pulleys, bearings, bolts, nuts and paint.
