Chasing down Texas ghost towns leads to a different sort of expedition
Some of you probably remember I've been poking around the scant remains of the La Reunion ghost town which has now been almost completely absorbed by Dallas. A guy named Joe Ramirez asked me for help in exploring the site for himself, so I gave him all the necessary information.
What follows is a link to what he found, and how he reacted.
In the 1100 block of Westmoreland, he found lines of mortared stone here and there, perhaps remnants of buildings from the distant past.
He also observed a far more recent settlement, an encampment with fire pits, piles of tires and a scattering of empty plastic containers.
Thinking methamphetamine lab, Ramirez contacted authorities, including Scott Griggs, the areas City Council representative.
On Monday, the Oak Cliff resident led Griggs, five Dallas police officers, a city code inspector and others back to the scene.
