Texas senator asks Perry for reform of state’s cancer-fighting agency

"A Texas senator has asked Gov. Rick Perry to make reform of the state’s troubled cancer-fighting agency a top priority for the upcoming legislative session.

In a letter sent today, Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, also asked Perry to put on hold any further awards to Texas companies until the legislature can fix problems with the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.

“I know you agree with me that Texans deserve open and transparent stewardship of their hard-earned tax dollars,” Davis wrote, noting that CPRIT “is currently plagued by accusations of cronyism, conflicts of interest, insider deals and a lack of transparency to the public
