A Texas woman not wearing a mask inside an H-E-B has gone viral after she filmed herself having a meltdown due to the grocery store refusing service to her. It is policy at all of the San Antonio-based grocer's stores that shoppers wear a face-covering due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.
Katie Bug said of her meltdown, streamed live over Facebook and later posted on r/PublicFreakout subreddit, that a customer at the H-E-B in Cedar Park (just North of Austin) "harassed" her for not wearing a mask. When Bug complained to the store manager about the situation, she said they then refused to let her check out.
It is unclear from the video when the actually incident at H-E-B occurred.
"I have anxiety and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). They were berating me about not wearing one even though I told them I have a medical exemption," Bug, who was wearing a shirt that read "Shed the Mask," said while crying to her camera.

(1,990 posts)HEB is one of the more compassionate stores. They came down to my neck of the woods in truck caravans and stocked up the local stores and provided free hot meals 24 hours after Harvey hit us.

(5,167 posts)Do not go into a grocery store, with "anxiety", "PTSD".
Does not seem like an adult woman, one that could/would care for a spouse and family.

(3,266 posts)meltdowns are not fun, and we all have them at some point. But this is just phony, attention-seeking bullshit. Call a waaaaahhhhhmbulance. Faker.

(2,026 posts)If I owned a store, I would post a sign and a picture at the entrance. The sign would say something like, "If you think you're 'medically exempt' from wearing a mask, here's a compelling medical reason to wear a mask." The picture would be of somebody in a bed in the ICU with all kinds of tubes attached to him/her, including a tube down his/her throat. And then the sign would go on to say, "If you can't wear a mask, DO NOT enter this store. Get a friend or family member to do your grocery shopping for you."
What is it with these people who are so frantically obsessed about not wearing a mask? It's such a simple thing to do that helps to prevent so much suffering. What kind of "medical condition" can make it so difficult to wear a mask for 15 minutes while you're in a store? These people are just plain nuts.

(20,210 posts)You just have to plan ahead. Depending on the store you choose, they may not have open pick up times for a couple of days.
Of course, wearing a "Shed the Mask" t-shirt makes me question the accuracy of her "diagnosis". If she really has PTSD and anxiety, I would think grocery shopping during a pandemic would be the last thing she would want to do.
