FBI, Texas Rangers raid Lubbock County Medical Examiner's office

The FBI, Texas Rangers and U.S. Attorney’s Office raided the Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday, several months after an investigation into the office’s practices began.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Johnny Bures confirmed that the Rangers were assisting the U.S. Attorney’s Office at the Medical Examiner’s Office near South Loop 289 and Quaker Avenue, though he could not comment further on the matter.

According to A-J Media archives, the Lubbock County District Attorney Sunshine Stanek requested earlier this year that investigators with the Texas Rangers look into allegations made against the county’s Medical Examiner’s Office, though the allegations were unspecified to the public.

A former employee of the Medical Examiner’s Office also filed a lawsuit against NAAG Pathology Labs this year, claiming she was fired after she complained about possible illegal activity by her bosses. A-J Media archives state the employee told police and county officials about “unethical and illegal” new practices at the office involving the autopsies being performed on the bodies of children at the facility for autopsies.

The investigation is ongoing.
