St. Edward's University censured by professors association
AUSTIN -- Following allegations of sexual harassment, breach of contract and defamation from three former professors, St. Edward’s University this month was added to the American Association of University Professors Censure List.
The list is composed of dozens of university administrations throughout the country that the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit says have failed to fulfill academic freedom and tenure principals.
“General conditions for academic freedom and governance at St. Edward’s University were found to be ‘abysmal,’ with ‘fear and demoralization’ widespread among the faculty,” the AAUP said.
The association detailed the firings of Katie Peterson, Shannan Butler and Corinne Weisgerber from the university in an October 2018 report, ahead of a vote on June 15 to add the university to the list.
