Conroe woman pleads guilty to embezzling around $800,000 from New Caney business
A Conroe woman was jailed Wednesday for stealing from a company whose owners say she fleeced around $800,000 to finance a lifestyle of high-priced pets, vehicles and other luxuries while they were left having to lay off staff.
Jennifer Marie LaBarge, 47, pleaded guilty to aggregate theft and was sentenced to 180 days in jail and received 10 years probation. As a condition of her probation, LaBarge must pay restitution to the owners of Polar Rig Specialties, Inc., the New Caney-based business she embezzled from while employed there as an office manager and bookkeeper.
Polar Rig's owners, husband and wife Jennifer and Cory Johnson, say LaBarge spent years taking money from the company to finance her mortgage and lifestyle frills.
They said she used stolen funds to pay for two Bengal Tiger cats costing between $1,500 and $1,800, two vehicles for her children to drive, as well as baseball and cheerleading activities for them and her husbands companys bills. LaBarge also visited the spa with money she took, they said.
