Debate postponed in key Houston-area swing district over GOP Rep. John Culberson's health
WASHINGTON -- The debate between Republican Rep. John Culberson and Democratic challenger Lizzie Pannill Fletcher set for Monday has been postponed because of health concerns for the congressman.
The Republican from Houston was released from Memorial Hermann Hospital after spending 10 days there following surgery for complicated diverticulitis.
At the recommendation of his doctors, he will be unable to attend the scheduled October 15 debate, wrote Ben McPhaul, Culbersons campaign manager, to the Fletcher campaign. We appreciate your willingness to reschedule the debate for a later date as his doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
Seven alternative dates were proposed in the letter to the Fletcher campaign before the Nov. 6 election, with the first proposed date on Sunday, Oct. 21 -- the day before early voting begins in Texas.
