State Sen. Carlos Uresti guilty on 11 felony fraud charges, faces prison
AUSTIN — State Sen. Carlos Uresti was found guilty Thursday of criminal fraud charges that could cost him millions of dollars in fines and send him to prison for years.
It took the jury around 11 hours over two days to reach a verdict, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
The San Antonio Democrat can keep his seat while he appeals the convictions but will no longer be able to serve in the Legislature if he loses.
As chairman of the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus, Sen. José Rodriguez issued a statement Thursday calling for Uresti to step down.
