Rockport Mayor C.J. Wax not seeking reelection
ROCKPORT Rockport Mayor C.J. Wax is not seeking reelection in this year's city election.
Wax was elected mayor of Rockport in 2010 and is finishing up his fourth term in office. After Rockport along with Fulton, Port Aransas and the surrounding areas was devastated by Hurricane Harvey on Aug. 25, Wax has worked with his fellow mayors to push for ongoing federal and state assistance for residents recovering from the storm.
Wax served more than 30 years in the U.S. Air Force before retiring in 2002, and later served in the U.S. Department of Defense as a task force director for the Secretary of Defense until 2006, according to the City of Rockport website. That same year, the Virginia native moved to Rockport. He served on various boards and committees until his election as mayor in 2010.
Two other candidates filed for the position of mayor as of the Feb. 16 deadline Matthew Otero and Patrick Rios but Otero's application was declared invalid after it was determined he did not have enough signatures on his petition in lieu of a filing fee, City Secretary Teresa Valdez said.

The mayor has a distinguished career of public service and I'm sure that the demands on the job of mayor increased significantly after Hurricane Harvey so I think it is appropriate to say thanks for your service and enjoy your retirement.
